Bring a Friend Saturdays Start June 1!

Bring a friend Saturdays starts June 1st! Every Saturday in June, bring your best pal, head on over to Lakewood and buy local. Stop in at Crafty Goodness and our neighbor Goddess Blessed and check out all the great local goodness we both have to offer. Make a purchase in each shop, receive a 5% coupon to be used on your next visit. Both our shops offer a wonderful selection of gift items for everyone on your list. After shopping, why not stop for lunch at one of the great restaurants on Madison? My suggestions are Barrio, Buckeye Beer Engine or Taco Tonto's. Get out there and support small business, you will be so glad you did!

Mission Small Business: Voting ends June 30th!

Chase & Living Social are giving away twelve $250,000 grants to small businesses around the country. In order to be considered, a business needs 250 votes. Voting is very easy, please click here, log in through Facebook and search for Crafty Goodness in Ohio. Wouldn't it be awesome if CG won some money??? I think it would!

If CG wins, lots more classes could be added...and who knows, maybe we'll move to an even a bigger location! A bigger location would mean we could accept even more local vendors. Right now we are up to 85 amazing people, ranging in age from just out of high school to grandparents.

So if you could, please take a minute to vote and help support local artists & crafters. Thanks for the support and don't forget to buy local!

Wednesday

Meet the Artist: Wayne Moon

Supporting local artists and offering a place to showcase their amazing work is the foundation Crafty Goodness was built on. With over 80 vendors, our second year is starting out great! Lakewood is such a wonderful community and I am so very proud to be a part of it. Our newest piece, an homage to the great city CG calls home, was created by Wayne Moon.

Now to find out a little more about him.

1. When did you start creating?
I am a self taught artist and started creating in 1982.

2. What is your favorite medium?
My favorite mediums are acrylic on canvas and mixed media.

3. Where do you find inspiration?
I find artistic inspiration in the works of the great impressionists like Camille Pisarro, Alfred Sisley, Banksy, and also street artists who display a degree of craftsmanship.

4. Do you do custom work?
I welcome doing custom work based on an individual's idea, or my suggestions. For example: an inspirational word, favorite saying, family name, neighborhood, hobby, activity. etc.

Be sure to check out the Lakewood mixed media piece soon at the shop, priced at $195.

Crafty Goodness Turns 1!!!

It was a cold day one year ago today that Crafty Goodness first opened her doors! To start, we had over 50 local vendors and today the number is nearing 70! I would like to thank everyone for a great first year. The community has been so supportive and I have met such wonderful people over the past twelve months. We have had so much fun at our different events and craft parties and look forward to many more.

A year later, CG is ready for another wonderful year in operations! We will be celebrating our first anniversary on Saturday, March 10th from noon-9 pm. There will be a trunk show featuring Forlorn Dolls and Zombie Socks, two of my favorite Lakewood Artists. Craft Demos will be going on throughout the day as well. Join us for food, drinks and of course cake!

December Crafting for a Cause

Our last Crafting for a Cause for 2011 will be sewing stockings for the Metro Hospital Maternity Ward. Tis the season for giving! The stockings will be cut and ready to be machine sewn, pick up at the store and return by December 20th. The pattern is very simple and will take only a few minutes to sew. Once all are collected they will be delivered to the hospital. The nurses will take photos of all the babies born during the Christmas week inside the stockings for the Moms, then they will be given the stockings to take home with a special treat just for them. The nurses have been doing this for a few years, and all the Moms love it!

December is a busy month, but please take time to do something nice for someone else. If you can't sew, that's ok! Open the door for someone when you are out shopping, let someone go ahead of you in line, visit an elderly relative/neighbor who may be alone during the holidays. Remember every little bit helps. Happy Holidays!

Meet the Artist: Emily Good

It is a great debate: art versus craft. While the store may be called Crafty Goodness, everything inside CG's four walls are art. Whenever you take a raw material and turn it into something unique, that's art. Maybe your "blank canvas" isn't a canvas at all, perhaps it's a yard of fabric, a skein of yarn or a block of wood. It's the creative process behind each item we have for sale that makes each vendor at CG a true artist.

Every few weeks, we will be featuring a different vendor and giving insight into their art. Our first featured artist is Emily Good.

Who is Emily Good?
A Junior at the Cleveland Institute of Art. After studying Industrial Design for a semester she switched her major to Communication Design, with a minor in Ceramics.

What is your favorite medium?
"I really love working with wood but I started working with letter press last year and I fell in love with it. I also love ceramics and working with metal."

Currently Emily's wooden chess set is being featured at Crafty Goodness.

What woods were used in the creation of the set?
Purple Heart, Maple and diseased Beech

How long was the creation process?
"I worked on the set everyday for 6 weeks. Every single part of the set was hand cut and sanded by hand."

What's next for Emily?

"I just finished building my first track bike frame. I am in the process of slip casting book ends and pressing porcelain tiles. I am also working on a self promotional piece and a couple random assignments for my classes."

Be sure to stop in and check out this exceptional set. Makes a unique, one of a kind holiday gift!

Saturday
